_ Democrat Judith Lincoln is announcing her candidacy for State Representative in the 94th District on Friday, January 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the Saginaw County Democratic Party Office, 122 North Michigan, Saginaw.

“It has been disturbing to watch the actions of the Republican controlled State House, Senate and Governor’s office to increase taxes on senior citizens and working families, slash funding for public education, and weaken the state’s economic outlook while protecting the most wealthy and influential corporations and people.”

“I decided to run for State Representative because the House is the only body where change can begin in January 2013. There are no state senate seats up for election in November, and current senators and the governor will remain in office through at least 2014. The only way to slow down or stop the onslaught of detrimental action coming from Lansing is to change the control of the House.”

Judith Lincoln is currently a public policy analyst at the Center for Civil Justice. She formerly was a partner at a large Saginaw County law firm from which she retired in 2008. She was an elected member of the Saginaw Township School Board for 12 years from 1998 to 2010. She was elected to the Saginaw County Commission and served a 2-year term in 2009-2010. “After my county commission term ended, I was fortunate to find very fulfilling work with the Center for Civil Justice where I can use my experience and skill to help the vulnerable among us. Experiences and training as a lawyer, an analyst/advocate, an elected official, a parent, and an active community volunteer have prepared me for the challenges of governing for all residents of Michigan, not just a favored few.”

Lincoln and her husband, Herb, who have lived in Saginaw Township for 25 years, have six children and ten grandchildren. She worked as a secretary/legal assistant before attending Wayne State Law School and returned to the same law firm as a lawyer where she became the first female partner. Herb Lincoln, a semi-retired mason contractor, owned a small business for many years.

Under proposed redistricting, the 94th District includes the City of Frankenmuth and the following Townships: Albee, Birch Run, Blumfield, Frankenmuth, Saginaw, Swan Creek, St. Charles, Taymouth, Thomas and Tittabawassee.
