Internship Program
Prospective interns should exhibit an interest in government and politics, as well as the ability to work efficiently and independently, while being part of a dynamic team.
Intern responsibilities will vary greatly and range from assisting with administrative and office duties to research and direct field work. The goal is to obtain work experience related to career interests and serve as a stepping stone into further job opportunities. A commitment to the goals and ideals of the Democratic Party is a prerequisite. Applicants must be organized, responsible, and punctual, have good oral and written communication skills and be able to work with others in a political environment. Computer literacy is required.
Responsibilities will include: working with local elected officials, candidate and constituencies of the Party to elect Democrats; voter registration and education; working to get the Democratic message out to members and to the public; working to raise money for the Party by events, direct mail, telemarketing, membership, large donor programs, and other means; and utilizing skills in web design and assisting with various internet based projects, as well as assisting with the design and maintenance of the Saginaw County Democratic Party website.
Salary Range
Interns will work 10 hours per week, at $8.00 per hour. Start and end dates may be flexible. Hours are negotiable and school credit may be arranged with John Kaczynski (jlkaczyn@svsu.edu).
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be a college student, at least 18 years old, who is dependable and capable of making deliveries and pickups in all types of weather conditions. Position requires diplomacy, discretion and excellent interpersonal skills.
Candidates should possess excellent telephone, verbal and written communication skills, a positive attitude, and a basic understanding of Microsoft Office software. Legislative experience is helpful, but not required.
